On December 4th, Pantone released what is regarded as the Colour of the Year 2020: Classic Blue.
Why is this information important to
the photographer? Because the colour of the year serves as inspiration in the
development and purchase of products in various sectors, from fashion,
decoration and of course, graphic design.
First of all, for those who don’t know, let’s talk about Pantone:
The Pantone Color Institute is the commercial unit of Pantone that has been launching global colour trends for over 20 years. Through studies of anticipated and seasonal trends, Pantone Color Institute has partnerships with global brands to work the power, psychology and emotion of colour in its design strategy.
The colour selection of the year 2020 takes place through an intensive and diversified search for new colour influences, which may include the entertainment industry, films, new technologies and effects, itinerant art collections and new artists.
“Inspiring calmness, confidence and connectivity, this resilient blue increases our aspiration for a solid and stable foundation on which to build, as we enter the threshold of a new era.”
Leatrice Eiseman (Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute)
According to Pantone, Classic Blue is “a timeless and lasting blue hue, elegant in its simplicity”. To know all the meanings inherent to this colour, you can read the article published by Pantone on the day of the colour’s release.
The colour chosen by Pantone for the beginning of this decade marks three words that must be taken into account for the 2020 strategy:
